COVID Quizzing: Who directed the 1997 historical drama Boogie Nights?
Everyone’s watching Netflux and Amazong and Disnoy and doing online quizzes and on the phones and hammering Social n shit and there is only one subject of course, the C-dawwg, and it seems harsher measures come next week here in Germany - proper curfew a la France, Spain, Italy, a few other places. It's going that way everywhere, even Africa, latecomer to the party, is getting onboard with COVID. The deathcount mounts and even the terminally chilled start to freak a bit. Could this thing really go FULL BLACK DEATH on our special little species? Take the C and the H out of Chill and what have you got? It's ill. You've got ill.
When the streamed Quarantine quiz from the Berlin Sameheads club was over last night - after our team in a few Berlin rooms and one in England spent a couple of hours in an online meeting room staring somewhat gormlessly at each other as we ate and smoked and drank and laughed and speculated about old beer and the oxygen needs of candles in caper jars and quizzed it up...but by the end all that webcamming had me fatigued and a bit fractured, at one point I put sunglasses on I don’t know why, it wasn’t funny, I felt bad about it later on.
I guess it was just…something to do…social distancing means a lot of time alone…clients were boarding things up…genuine work worries…this a PROPER GLOBAL SWITCHBACK...the capitalist veils weren’t holding…something was up…what part in all of this?…connection was broken... for now.
Afterwards I cleaned up my room in a short-term rental out here by the eerily quiet Schonefeld airport and Rudow horse pastures and bungalow communities and newbuilds and canals and pretty trails. Brushed my teeth, snapped off a little beery grogan, washed my hands and came to bed to play the ancient Chinese game GO on my phone for an hour or three.
I am now a 12kyu rated GO player, focusing on smaller 9x9 boards. The rating scale goes from 25k to 1k. Then there is the more advanced rankings - the dan rankings - they go from 1p to 9p in the other direction. If you're 7 dan or higher you're probably a tournament player and earning your living from GO, A GO Pro. If you are 9p you are basically an Alpha Zero AI overlord and should really be using your wondrous neural network near consciousness to get us the fuck out of this Corona mess.
They thought a machine couldn't boss GO like they do in chess because GO is more random and intuitive and nuanced. Nobody told Alpha Go and Alpha Zero that...
Many think SARS-CoV-2 is a Chinese conspiracy to assert their power in the world. Ze Donald calls it the Chinese Virus, doing some nice dog whistling to that section of his base that loves a K-theory and feels empowered by gaining attachment to seeming nationalist actions and movements. How can any of us down here in the citizenry know what kind of geopolitical fuckery is really going on at these obscured levels? It's probably just the DEEPSTATE so nothing to worry about...😳
I guess it’s gonna take Alpha Zero and her offspring to implement the BORDERLESS UTOPIA on this particular space marble.
Shame that.
One thing's for sure though - the Net's sure slowed a tonne now that the social distancing lifestyle of us long-term home workers has gone viral.
